Toothache: Make sure to clean the area of the affected tooth thoroughly with a toothbrush. Have your child rinse their mouth with water and help him/her with flossing to remove food that may be stuck. You can use an over-the-counter pain medication, but be sure to follow the instruction on the bottle. A child can mistake a canker sore for a toothache so check along the gums for an ulcer. Please contact our office soon so we can help your child feel more comfortable.

Cut or Bitten Tongue, Lip or Cheek: Apply a cool compress to the affected area and use pressure to help stop bleeding if necessary. If the bleeding continues, make sure to bring your child to an emergency room.

Knocked Out Permanent Tooth: The most important thing you can do to help your child is to get the tooth back into the socket ASAP. Once in, have your child bite gently on gauze to hold the tooth in position until you can get to our office. If you cannot reinsert the tooth, place it in cold milk. Call our office right away; time is an important factor in the long-term prognosis of the tooth.

Knocked Out Baby Tooth: Unfortunately, baby teeth cannot be re-implanted if they are lost. Doing so will damage the permanent tooth that is still developing.
